The 2018 Dodge-Challenger-SRT-Demon looks almost as good as a Ford GT

It may seem like my world revolves around the Ford GT, but I also own a 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. In fact, it was almost 2 years ago when I committed to buying a Dodge Demon after driving it at the press introduction. When I made that commitment I knew buying a Demon would pretty much nuke my ability to keep my 2005 Ford GT and get a new Ford GT. There was simply no way to keep all three cars — the math wouldn’t work no matter how creatively I wrote the equation.

Just before selling my Ford GT I got both vehicles to a Cars & Coffee at the same time

Cry me a river, right? Instead of having two Ford GTs (a 2005 and 2019) I’m ending up with one 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon and one new 2019 Ford GT. Yes, it was painful watching my 2005 Ford GT drive away, but it could be worse.

Dodge Demon For GT Driving

The 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon looks like a rolling menace; I love it

My 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is being covered in Kelley Blue Book’s long-term fleet, with updates coming about every other week. I’ve had the car for 9 months and its odometer is about to hit 3,000 miles. I’d like to drive the Dodge Demon more but my schedule leaves it in the garage much of the time. However, I’ve taken it to the drag strip four times, with over 60 runs. My best 1/4-mile time so far is 10.23 seconds at 135 mph.

A 10.23 at 135 mph with a stock Demon, on stock Nitto drag radials, is pretty quick…

That’s actually the best time on record for a Dodge Demon running a stock engine on stock Nitto drag radials. I’d love to put the Demon in the 9s with everything stock, and I’m hoping to do that during a December event in Bakersfield, when the air temperature should be nice and cool…

In the meantime, expect more Dodge Demon posts as I explore its capabilities as the ultimate street-legal drag car.
