By October of 2014 I had been staring at a dead vacuum gauge for over 2 and 1/2 years. I purchased a new vacuum gauge shortly after my original gauge died, but I only trusted The GT Guys to install it. Unfortunately, they’re based 2,300 miles east of Los Angeles, near Detroit, so getting The GT Guys and my GT in the same place at the same time isn’t always easy.
However, the 2014 Ford GT Owners Rally was located in Las Vegas that year. Even more conveniently, I had to be in Las Vegas the same week as the Owners Rally for a work-related conference. It seemed like a no-brainer to drive the GT to Vegas and let The GT Guys swap out my new vacuum gauge for the faulty unit.
The 600-mile round trip was easy, like every road trip in the Ford GT. The GT Guys were able to swap out the gauge while I was working, though sadly the closest I got to attending this rally was dropping my car off in the host hotel parking lot and picking it up after the work was done. Better still, this was the last Ford GT Owners Rally I’d be missing for many years.
